Il m’a fallu plusieurs écoutes pour apprivoiser ce disque, totalement déstabilisé au départ par les options pianistiques : envolée, la subtile rhétorique mozartienne faite de levés et de posés évoquant le vol d’un papillon ! Dès le début de KV301 c’est la mesure écrite qui tient lieu de rythme, avec des temps forts sur-accentués qui alourdissent le propos et lui enlèvent son apparence de naturel. Du coup l’animation du discours use d’expédients : tempo fluctuant (parfois jusqu’à la bousculade), effets romantiques plutôt anachroniques... L’ensemble donne un Mozart un peu hystérique, qui m’a éloigné de la musique. La simplicité de ces œuvres est ailleurs, chez Perlman/Barenboim ou Messiereur/Bogunia par exemple. Voisine incongrue (mort de Mme Mozart mère, mort de Lorca ?), la magnifique sonate de Poulenc pose à mon sens le même problème. Certes cri de douleur et de révolte, l’œuvre manque ici de la légèreté et de la vivacité qu’y mettaient Hadelich/Kulek ou les solistes du London Conchord. Mais petit à petit j’ai été conquis par un magnifique violon, frémissant et corsé. Dans ma discothèque, ce disque sera classé au rayon "Esther Hoppe" ou "luthiers" plutôt qu’à "Mozart" ou "Poulenc". Following a first album devoted to Mozart and Stravinsky, Esther Hoppe and Alasdair Beatson have again combined Mozart and the 20th century, this time with Poulenc and four works of Parisian inspiration. In 1763, Mozart’s family had a grand first visit to Paris: received by Louis XV on several occasions, young Wolfgang dazzled the king and the whole of his court. In 1778 Mozart returned to Paris with his mother; now 22 years old, the young man tried to be introduced to the court again, but the young prodigy had grown and was ignored by the nobility. Living in precarious conditions, lacking money and suffering from hunger, his mother died at the Rue du Sentier 6. It was in these tragic circumstances that Mozart composed one of those rare sonatas in a minor scale (K. 304). Dedicated to the Spanish poet Lorca, Poulenc’s Sonata is also marked by tragedy, as Ginette Neveu, who had first performed the work in 1943, was killed in a plane crash.
